Pediatric Dentistry

Pediatric dentistry is a specialty that provides primary and comprehensive oral health care for infants and children through adolescence. Pediatric dentists are trained to care for a child teeth, gums, and mouth throughout the various stages of the child growth.

In addition to completing four years of dental school, pediatric dentists complete two additional years of residency training in dentistry for infants, children, and teens. Pediatric dentists also know how to examine and treat children in ways that make them comfortable and keep them at ease. In addition, pediatric dentists often use specially designed equipment and offices that cater to children.

A pediatric dentist has many responsibilities, including:

  • the diagnosis and treatment of oral health problems
  • prevention and education about dental decay and gum disease
  • providing emergency treatment
  • managing children's behavior
  • creating beautiful smiles
